Neighborhood Description
Generally regarded as the "House Side” of capitol hill, the SE area contains a lot of the same elements of NE Capitol Hill. Tourists and locals alike can frequent the grounds of the capitol building itself, the Supreme Court, and the Library of Congress. These prominent tourist spots are contrasted by the lesser known but equally historic sites such as the Navy Yard, whose site was personally chosen by George Washington in 1799 in an effort to create industrial jobs in the city. Eastern Market provides merchants, farmers, and an ever-growing eclectic mix of visitors and sellers to the area. It is DC's last surviving public market.
Combing the grandeur of US political life with historic row houses and spacious parks, the lifestyle and atmosphere of capitol hill has often been remarked as enchanting.
