Neighborhood Description

Downtown
Downtown DC means a lot of things to a lot of different people. Whether its elegant dining, music events, cultural neighborhoods, or historic sites, Downtown DC has much to offer anyone who enters. Downtown is generally referred to as the area east of Foggy Bottom, south of Shaw/Howard, and surrounded by the National Mall and Capitol on its southern and eastern borders respectively. Downtown encompasses neighborhoods of Chinatown/Gallery Place, Mount Vernon Square, and Penn Quarters.

Downtown DC’s cluster is not as heavily populated by residents as one might think. Its population is only half of DC’s average cluster population indicating the large influence of the commercial sector in Downtown; furthermore, it has the lowest homeownership rate in the entire city. Downtown combines restaurants and lounges where the power brokers of the city entertain, to quick eats and entertainment for other residents. With so many historic sites and museums to enjoy, the Downtown district is always buzzing with excitement and energy.
