Neighborhood Description
The second oldest neighborhood of DC, Tenleytown shares the highest land elevation in the city with adjacent neighborhood AU Park (429 feet). The area was once known as Tennally's Town, the name of a popular tavern owner in the late 1700's.
The area provides an array of different restaurant and shopping experiences, and its main corridor lies along Wisconsin Avenue which provides a short ride to the shopping district of neighboring Friendship Heights. Its location in upper northwest DC provides some distance from the congestion of downtown, but its access to the red line metro allows ease of transportation throughout the city. With a couple of grocery stores and attractions, Tenleytown provides for its residents adequately.
