Neighborhood Description
The "Senate” side of Capitol Hill, obviously lays north of the dividing East Capitol Avenue that separates the two regions of Capitol Hill. Original designers of the city anticipated expansion east from the capitol and this is why the most famed views of the Capitol dome can be seen from East Capitol Ave. Similar to Capitol Hill SE the area is full of row house and frequent condominiums; there are few co-ops to be found. This presitigious area is serviced most often by Union Station, which doubles as a train station and shopping and dining destination. The numerous bars, shops, and dining create a city within a city distinction, and visitors will often find Capitol Hill filled with elitists who rarely venture from their neighborhood boundaries.
